Living room insulation and more wall furring (11/26/13)

Today I insulated the wall in the living room that we took off the sheet rock and removed the closet.  Mike added in some more boards up by the ceiling to finish furring out the walls to 2x6.

Living room wall (11/25/13)

Today Mike furred out one of the walls in the living room into a 2x6 wall.  I was thinking this was going to be more work that it was, but it was pretty quick and easy.  We figured out we don't need any wiring in this wall so it's ready for insulation.  

Living Room Demo (11/24/13)

Today we took out the closet in the living room, removed the pocket door going into the kitchen, and took sheetrock off the wall.  Getting ready to put up the beam and make the outside walls 2x6 instead of 2x4.

 Mike put up a couple more sheets of sheetrock in the dining room and master bedroom.  He also cut a hole in the floor for the laundry chute.

Downstairs Bathroom Framed (11/23/13)

Today we got the downstairs bathroom and the closet for Evan's new bedroom framed.

It's a little hard to tell whats going on since there are just so many 2x4's so I'll put a caption on each to say what each is.

 When you go into the bathroom it will be just the vanity and closet.  There's a door going into the tub and toilet area - we figured with the 3 kids sharing this bathroom one kid could be showering while another is using the sink area with the door closed.  

Footing (11/22/13)

Tonight Mike poured the footing for the beam going upstairs.

Beam Footing (11/21/13)

Today Mike dug the hole for the footing which is needed for the beam going upstairs.  He had to break the concrete which was thicker than he expected so it took quite a bit to get through.  The main water line also just happened to be right in this spot....go figure all our projects seem to go this way, so the hole is not quite as deep as we needed it to be, but it will be fine.

Icky Tiles! (11/20/13)

Today Mike was able to put up some of the soffit on the underside of the porch ceiling and along one side of the house.  

We want to start digging into the concrete floor downstairs, however there are tiles on the floor that Mike sent out for testing and they came back positive for asbestos.  Before we can do anything we have to safely remove them.  So tonight we moved everything out of the room, removed the carpet, and sealed off the area.  Mike took out all the tiles, cleaned up the floor, and got the room all put back together since that is where we are sleeping for the time being!  Feels good to get those out of the house so we can move onto other things.

Sheetrock, wiring, & Porch (11/19/13)

Taking advantage of the few "warm" days we have left this season, Mike worked on the porch ceiling a bit today.  He put up the pieces that the soffit hooks into.

Mike also put up a little more sheetrock in the dining room and did a little wiring while I did some mudding.

Porch Wrap (11/10/13)

Today Mike got the beams on the porch wrapped to get it ready to put up the ceiling/soffit.  I cut all the pieces for the soffit so they are ready when we have time to get them up....and the weather is nice enough!

Back Closet Sheetrocked (11/9/13)

Today Mike got a little more sheetrock done on the closet in the back when you come in the side door.  I did more mudding.

Dining room Sheetrock (11/7/13)

Tonight Mike put up more sheetrock on the outside walls of the dining room.  As fast as he could put it up I was right behind him putting on the first coat of mud.  I decided to skip the ceilings and the corners, it's just too hard for me and not worth the frustration so we'll just have to hire someone for that.

Mike bought me a cute little pink ladies tool set.....I'm sure these tools will get lots of use before this project is complete!

Arch & Mud Room (11/6/13)

Today Mike put up the underside/ceiling of the arch on the front porch.

He also hung some more sheetrock on the walls in the mud room area.

Dining Room Ceiling Sheetrock Finished (11/5/13)

Tonight Mike finished the sheetrock on the ceiling in the dining room/mud room.

Arch! (11/4/13)

Today Mike worked on the structure for the arch above the front door!  

He also got the dining room ceiling sheetrocked.  I mudded again, trying to figure out inside corners....they are not my specialty, if you have any tips please let me know!
