Carpet! (1/24/11)

The carpet was installed downstairs!!  Wow, what a difference it makes!!

I finished filling all the holes in the trim, both upstairs and downstairs.  Mike finished changing out the outlets and put coverplates on them.  He went home a little early with the kids which motivated me to stay late and vacuum and wash all the floors upstairs, it is so nice to get rid of all the dust we created!

We're at a point now that we don't need to spend every night at the house working on it...yay!  If we need to move in we can.  I need to paint all the doors upstairs but that can be done gradually or even once we move in.  I will probably do some each night, but come home at a decent time.  We still need to hook up the washer and dryer and paint the bathroom downstairs.  Do the backsplash above the kitchen countertops and I'd like to change the color of the cabinets.  These are all things that are not a rush or will prevent us from moving in, so we'll be taking a little break, we worked really hard up to this point and most definitely need a break!

Kate's Room Painted! (1/23/11)

I finished painting the brown wall in Kate's room.  It turned out so cute!!  Mike put up some trim, but we need to get more as there was not enough from patching the doorway that was on the one wall.  One piece also doesn't look the greatest, so we will replace that one too.

I also painted the other side of the wall in the kitchen that was patched from the doorway that was there.  I started filling holes in the trim, what a slow process!

Mike painted the ceiling in the hall going down the steps and the walls where I couldn't reach.  He did some plumbing in the laundry room from where the washer and dryer used to be hooked up.  He put trim in Kate's room.  He hooked up the sink in the upstairs bathroom and did some finishing caulking around the bathtub.

Pink! (1/22/11)

I painted Kate's room!  3 of the walls will be pink and 1 will be brown.  I did the pink walls so they can dry and then the brown will be done on Sunday.

Mid-painting Kate decided to put both her hands in the paint! 

Mike took the tile out of the bathroom downstairs, and the toilet and vanity.

He also put down new vinyl and put the new vanity in.

Paint & Finishing Touches (1/21/11)

I finished painting the second coat on the walls in the family room downstairs.  I also got a coat of paint on the walls going down the steps (as far up and I could reach, Mike has to do the ceiling and higher up on the walls).

Mike put quarter-round on the trim in the living room and other rooms that needed it.  Some of the rooms didn't need it as the hardwood went up closer to the walls.

First coat on Downstairs! (1/20/11)

I painted the first coat on the family room downstairs!  Mike finished painting the ceiling.

We painted some trim and quarter round for upstairs.  I put another coat of mud on the walls upstairs, both in Kate's room and in the kitchen.  We are hoping to wrap up a lot of things this weekend and hopefully just move next week!

Things to do this weekend:
1) Paint final coat in downstairs family room
2) Paint walls going down steps
3) Finish mudding and sanding walls in Kate's room and kitchen
4) Paint Kate's room
5) Paint rest of trim upstairs
6) Paint closet in laundry room
7) Fill all holes in trim upstairs
8) Paint wall in kitchen
9) Start painting doors upstairs (??)

I guess that's just my list...yikes it's a little long when it's all listed out like that!!  Well I'm hoping to cross a lot of those things off the list this weekend -- wish me luck!!

Getting downstairs finished (1/19/11)

Mike started painting the ceiling downstairs, he ran out of paint so he will finish it Thursday.

 You can see the difference in ceiling color in this picture!  It will be so much brighter downstairs!

I started to edge the walls so on Thursday I can finish edging just the ceiling and then I can paint right away.  Seems like prepping the walls and edging takes the most time!

I put another coat of mud on the wall in Kate's room.  And I painted more trim...it's endless!  I found more trim that I hadn't even started yet.  I really can't wait to be done painting trim!! 

Mike put the trim back on upstairs that we had taken off and I painted at home.  Now some of the rooms just need some quarter-round and they will be complete!

Carpet is coming on Monday for downstairs, can't wait!!  We are working on a schedule to get everything done downstairs quickly so we are ready.  Mike put the final coat of mud on the wall that was sheetrocked.  He also spray textured the ceiling in that same spot.  Wow $15 a can for the spray texture and it used 4 cans!! 

I painted the trim, I got one coat of primer and one coat of color.  It only needs one more coat of color and it will be done! 

Wednesday Mike will finish smoothing the wall that was sheetrocked/mudded and paint the ceiling.  I will put the final coat on the trim.  Then on Thursday and Friday I will paint the walls.  We decided on "Pewter Tray" which is the same color as the bedroom downstairs, I just love that color!  Then it should be ready for carpet.....oh and paint the walls going down the steps too.

Upstairs, the wall coming in from the back door got the 2nd coat of mud and I painted a little trim.

Things are coming together and should be done soon!!

Doors and Trim (1/17/11)

Mike put in the rest of the doors upstairs, except for the one at the top of the steps.  We are going to wait until closer to move in time or after we move in just to keep it from getting damaged or marked up.  Now all the doors need to be painted so we can put the knobs on!  Mike also put some trim back on that we had took off and painted while it was off.

I painted trim AGAIN upstairs.  It is taking quite awhile, all of it needs one coat of primer and then 2 of the color.  I'm getting there, I should be done soon!

I mudded the wall that Mike put in to close up the extra doorway going into Kate's room on both sides.  Mike worked on the mud/walls downstairs.  Our plan is to paint the downstairs this week and get carpet on Monday.

Wall, Steps, Flooring, and Paint (1/16/11)

Mike framed in the wall to the 2nd doorway going into Kate's room and put up some sheetrock.

 Evan is daddy's big helper!!

I put another coat of mud on the wall in the family room downstairs, painted the final coat of white on the bedroom door downstairs, and spent the rest of the day painting trim upstairs.

Mike finished the flooring in the laundry room/storage room.

He also finished the steps.



And put up another door, this one is in our bedroom.

Paint Finished & Flooring (1/15/11)

I finished the final coat of paint in the downstairs bedroom for both the walls and the closet.  The door just needs one more coat of paint.

Mike layed out more flooring in the storage room.  It just needs to be fitted around the furnace and all those things.

Steps, Paint, and Flooring! (1/14/11)

Mike tore out the steps and put up the new ones!  It went pretty quick once he started.  Evan was so interested in this and had to help dad!  The steps are so much better now!  They are no longer scary to walk down and are just normal!

I prepped and painted some more trim upstairs.  I also painted the first coat on the bedroom downstaits.

"Mike the Perfectionist" cut the vinyl for the laundry room.  He made a little drawing of the area with all the measurements and layed out the flooring and cut it to match his drawing.  Of course it fit right in the spot perfectly!
