Sanding the Floors (12/31/10)

We are finally ready to sand the original hardwood floors upstairs.  Here are the before and afters:

Apparently all the dust in the house has gotten on the camera and we ended up with bad shots, but you get the idea.

 Evan's closet was full of some kind of adhesive.

After:

Mike started late Thursday night with a sander that he rented from Menards.  This one did not work good at all, so he stopped at midnight, came home and set his alarm to be up at Home Depot to rent a different kind at 6:00 am.  The Home Depot sander worker much better, but still took a long time.  He was not able to finish Friday, so he went back early in the morning on Saturday to finish it up.  The floors look great all sanded! 

Now it was time to pick out a stain color!  I wanted to go dark.  We had looked at Home Depot, Menards, and Lowe's and they did not have the dark color that I was invisioning, so we thought we'd check Sherwinn Williams.  Of course it was New Years day and they were closed, so we had to wait until Sunday.  On Sunday we went there, they didn't have anything dark enough either, but the guy was able to mix us up a custom color, which did turn out VERY dark!  I REALLY hope I like it when it is all done, I'm super scared of how it is going to turn out!!!!
