Meeting with city

We had our first meeting with the city today just to go over our plans and for them to let us know the schedule on things to come.  The things that we are asking for sound like they will most likely be approved.

We will get in touch with the city engineers next week to start planning our water disbursement system.

On February 19th there will be a meeting with the city planning commission, we (or just Mike) will have to attend.  Sounds like they may not approve the covered front porch just because they have to follow all the city guidelines; but the city counsel meeting which is scheduled for March 11th is a whole different group and they tend to approve more things and don't really look at the opinion of the city planning committee...so we are hopeful!

Our plans are officially submitted to the city!  Mike dropped them off this afternoon.  Now we have to wait for a call on when our meeting next Wednesday, the 30th, will be scheduled for to go over the plans.  YAY!

Plans!

We have plans!!!!!  After a long 3 months of waiting and figuring things out, we finally have plans!!!

Here are some pictures of the actual plans, they are a little hard to see with all the information added into them, but you can see the basic layout.

Mike will be submitting them to the city tomorrow.  We are filing for 2 variances; one for the front porch - the city does not allow us to go out the front any further, the house can't be any closer than 31 feet from the street.  The other for the side of the addition, new guidelines are that you have to be 10 feet from the property line; our existing house is 5 feet from the property line so we are proposing to stick with that and not jog the addition in 5 feet.

We also have to file for a conditional use permit for lot coverage.  The city allows 35% of the lot to be covered (with house/driveway/patio's/sidewalks, etc.) and they allow you to file for up to 45% coverage but you have to add in a water garden or another type of water collection system.

On January 30th we will meet with the city to review our plan.  On February 19th the planning commission will review our plans and decide if they will approve them or not; if they do approve them then it goes up against the city council for their approval and that meeting is on March 11th.

Now that we have our plans we can start getting bids on different materials so we can get our budget going.  We're super excited to get started!!
