Egress digging & Bump out (8/28/13)

Today I got the rest of the side front egress window dug out, so now it is ready for the retaining walls to be built.

Mike worked on the bump out section again for the office windows.

The Helpinator in action!

It's getting dark out a lot earlier now so we are not able to get as much outside stuff done as we'd like.  So I guess now we will be starting some inside things after it gets dark.  Tonight we moved our bed to a different wall as it was up against this exterior wall where the new bump out and windows are going to go.  Then we are going to start working on electrical and plumbing in the addition so we can get it inspected and insulated before it gets cold out.

A cool relief! (8/27/13)

WE HAVE AIR!!  Yay Mike was able to fix the leaks in the air conditioning and get it going!  What a relief!!  The back addition is not air conditioned along with the kitchen, but we have doors closed to keep the living room and bedrooms cool!

Mike also started on the bump out section that the office windows will be in.

Air Conditioning??? (8/26/13)

So we still do not have air conditioning because we had to take it out to do the addition as it was mounted in the back.  Mike didn't want to put it back in until the furnace was in it's new location and he could put in permanent lines......BUT IT IS SO HOT OUTSIDE!!!  Like 100 degrees!!  And it's not cooling off anytime soon!  Mike came home from work today saying that he thinks he can temporary hook it up so we'd have air!  Music to my ears!!  Well he worked on it, got it all hooked up with the help of his dad but there were leaks in it.  So we still don't have air but hopefully he will be able to fix the leaks tomorrow!!

Finished Outside Wall (8/25/13)

Today Mike got a lot accomplished!  He took out our bedroom window and Evan's bedroom window; got them framed and closed up; put sheeting on the whole wall that was the old part of the house; put the house wrap on; and put in a new window that will be in the new office!  Feels good to have another outside wall mostly done!

House wrap is on

New office window is in!

Tear off (8/24/13)

Today Mike stripped more stuff off the side of the house to get it ready to remove and cover up windows and to put a new window in.

Office window (8/19/13)

Tonight Mike cut the opening for one of the windows in what will be the office.  He framed in the opening for the window and also started removing the soffit and other things from the outside of the house to get it ready for sheeting and house wrap.

Shingles!! (8/18/13)

We had a eager crew that wanted to shingle today!  Mike was not quite ready to have the roof shingled but they were eager and helped him finish it up.  He put a hole in the roof for some plumbing to go through, tore off the last side of shingles, and finished sheeting the roof.  They were able to get it all done in one day!  Mike got the satellite dish remounted and now it feels so complete!  ....well now onto the next thing!  He also trimmed up the trees so they don't block all of our hard work!

Diggin' the egress window (8/16/13)

I dug some more of the front side egress window today.  Found another gas line or ground or something close to the other line.  The pallet of shingles is in the way, so I'm about done digging until that gets moved so I have more space to put dirt and can actually finish digging.

Mike worked on a little more of the sheeting on the roof.

Gas line (8/15/13)

I dug more of the egress window today.  We knew there was a gas line some where in the area, I found it today and it is a lot closer to the house and not as deep as we thought it would be.  So we decided we will dig down just to the height of the gas line and get a little bit smaller window than we originally bought - it will be the same size as the back window we put in.  If we had the gas line moved it would cost $500 and they would end up digging up the front yard...too much going on!  We can make it work how it is.

The gas line
Mike finished the sheeting on the front porch.

Sheeting and digging (8/14/13)

I dug a little more of the front side egress window today.

Mike worked on the front porch sheeting some more.

Porch Sheeting (8/13/13)

Mike worked on the sheeting for the porch again tonight, still more to go.

Front Porch Sheeting (8/12/13)

Tonight Mike started the front porch sheeting, didn't get too far...but its started!

I smoothed out the dirt in the backyard as good as its gonna get, now we just need to wait for a day with no wind so we can spray Round-Up before we seed.

Roof Framing (8/11/13)

Today Mike tore off the shingles from the front section of the roof.  Then he finished the framing going up the roof, tying the front porch into the rest of the roof.

I started to dig the side front egress window to get more dirt to spread in the backyard.  The dirt was full of river rock though so it took all day to get only about 5 wheel barrow loads after I sifted through it and took out a ton of rock....not my favorite thing to do!

The dirt is spread, just needs to be smoothed and more rocks picked out of it
The start of the egress hole and pile of rock I pulled out of the dirt
