Other Side of Stairs Wall Framed (1/29/15)

Today Mike started framing the wall on the other side of the steps.  This one is a little more entailed because of all the plumbing and vent pipes in the way, so the wall will be extra thick and just the first part of it is done so far. We also changed where we will put the closet in Kate's bedroom.  Originally we were going to put it on that wall of the steps.  As we laid it out, it was just too awkward coming into the room, you'd be coming straight into the closet and then have to turn right away.  So we are going to put it on the wall straight ahead of the bedroom door.  The pipe for the toilet in the upstairs bathroom hangs low in her ceiling so we are going to frame it into a fun shelf for some baskets for something.  Her room will be a little more "unique" with everything that is going on down there, but I think it will all work out.

This is the view from inside Kate's new room.  There's a lot going on! All the yellow gas lines are going to be moved to the other side of the steps eventually.

Furnace Room Framing (1/28/15)

Today Mike did some more framing around the furnace and water heater.  It feels like they have a room now!  He also put up some sheetrock going down the stairs.  Looking forward to closing in the furnace area more to get rid of the noise....pretty sure no one realizes how loud water heaters are until your trying to watch TV and it kicks on right there! :)

Framing Around the Stairs (1/26/15)

Tonight Mike got a start on the framing around the stairs and the furnace area.  

Return Ducts (1/20/15)

Today Mike finished the main run for the return ducts.  Now he needs to run lines to a few rooms and the duct work will be complete!

Furnace Vent (1/19/15)

Today Mike ran the permanent vent for the furnace and has one more to run.  He also re-routed some water lines to their permanent location in the last couple days.  Feels good to start getting somethings cleaned up downstairs so we can finish more soon!

Return Ducts (1/15/15)

Today Mike cut in the vents for the 2 walk-in closets upstairs. We weren't sure if we should put vents in the closets but both were pretty cold so we decided to put in one that goes to both sides to share.  This completes all the heat vents!

Mike also worked on the return ducts.  He got the first duct connected to the furnace, which took some figuring and custom building, so now hopefully the rest is a little more straight-forward.

Dining Room Heat (1/14/15)

Tonight Mike ran the heat duct to the dining room.  This was the last room to get heat run to it.  He ran it through the storage room and into the laundry room.  We are planning on putting cabinets in the laundry room so the duct will be hidden behind them.  Mike's also been working on the returns a bit and doing some figuring for them.

More Heat (1/9/15)

Today Mike got the heat ducts run to the upstairs bathroom, our bedroom, all 3 bedrooms downstairs, and the office.  It feels so much better in the house!  

Duct Work Around Steps (1/6/15)

Tonight Mike got the heat run to the kitchen so now all of the ducts are run to that side of the house.  He's been anticipating the other side since he'd have to run the duct work around/behind the steps somehow.....but of course "Mike Stanton Style" it went smooth and turned out good!  He did a lot of figuring and changed things around a few times up to this point so I'm glad it turned out good!  I'm looking forward to having heat in my bedroom, office....and all those other rooms on that side :)  

Living Room Patched Wall Painted (1/5/15)

Today I painted the wall in the living room that we had to patch to fix the leaky shower water line.  

Mike did some more duct work.  We now have heat going to the living room upstairs, family room downstairs, and the mudroom area upstairs by the side door.

Duct Work (1/4/15)

Today Mike worked on more duct work.  He did a lot of figuring, some shopping, secured the furnace in place, and got the heat run to the new bathroom downstairs.

I finished mudding the wall in the living room that we patched in to fix the shower leak.  I also sanded it so it is ready for paint.

Furnace Moved! (1/2/15)

In the last few days Mike has been running duct work to all the new rooms in the house.  Today he moved the furnace.  It is just on the other side of the steps and we will build walls around it eventually. He still has some ducts to run before they are all working.
